How To: Charles Kurtz's Suet Recipe

“Keep in mind, if we are ever out of food you can always go get the bird suet. If you were starving it would be very nutritious.” -my dad

-On commercial suet, birds will not eat it, probably because there is Paraffin in it.

-On cheap bird food, like millet, birds do not like it, however, you can add it to the suet mix.

ME: HAVE YOU EVER TASTED IT?
DAD: ARE YOU KIDDING?
DAD: THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. IF PEOPLE CAN EAT IT, BIRDS CAN EAT IT.

-Birds love peanut butter, ours has no emulsifiers.

-Tip: Cayenne pepper keeps away the squirrels, but not the birds.*
(For the record, we don't put cayenne pepper in our suet; we have rather plump squirrels.)

-Stay close by and attend at all times while cooking:
